Our Privacy Commitment
Elgnis is designed with privacy at its core. We believe in ephemeral connections – your data exists only while you're actively using the app, then it's gone.
What Data We Collect (Temporarily)
We collect the following information only during an active check-in:
- Location Data: Your GPS coordinates to show you on the map and connect you with others at the same venue
- Date of Birth: To verify you're 18+ (required by law for social/dating apps)
- Intent/Preferences: What you're looking for (to match you with compatible people)
What We Don't Collect
We explicitly do NOT collect or store:
- Your name
- Photos or profile pictures
- Check-in history
- Location history
- Messages or communications
- Any persistent user account data
Data Retention: Automatic Deletion
All your data is automatically deleted when:
- You check out of a venue, OR
- Your check-in expires (time limit reached)
There is no long-term storage. There is no data history. Once you're gone, you're gone.
How We Use Your Data
Your temporary data is used only to:
- Display your location on the map to other checked-in users
- Match you with people who share similar interests at the same venue
- Enforce our 18+ age requirement
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Your location and preferences are only visible to other users who are checked in at the same venue.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- OpenStreetMap: For map tiles and venue data (no personal data shared)
- Your Device: Location data stays on your device until you check in
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Delete Your Data: Use the "Delete All My Data" option in the Help menu
- Stop Data Collection: Simply check out or close the app
- Browse Without Sharing: You can view the map without checking in
Location Permission
Location permission is optional. The app uses location data to:
- Show you nearby venues with precise distance
- Allow you to check in to venues
- Connect you with others at the same location
If you don't grant location permission, the app will use your approximate area (based on IP address) to show nearby venues. You can browse venues and view the map, but you cannot check in without precise location.
Age Verification
We collect your date of birth to verify you are 18 or older. This is required by law for social and dating applications. Your DOB is only stored while you're checked in and is deleted upon checkout.
Data Security
We protect your data through:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
- Minimal data collection
- Automatic data deletion
- No long-term storage or databases
Children's Privacy
Our app is only for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect when changes were made.
