Our Privacy Commitment

Elgnis is designed with privacy in mind. We minimize data collection and only use what’s needed to provide the core experience.

What Data We Collect

We collect the following information to operate the app:

• Location Data: Used to show nearby venues and enable check-ins
• Date of Birth: Used to verify you're 18+
• Preferences: Intent and matching preferences you set in the app
• Device Identifier (app-generated): Used to operate the account-less matching system and subscriptions

What We Don't Collect

We explicitly do NOT collect or store:

• Your name
• Photos or profile pictures
• Check-in history
• Location history

Data Storage and Retention

• On your device: We store your profile, preferences, and session state locally to keep the app working across launches.
• On our servers: We process check-in data to enable live matching. Check-ins are intended to expire when you check out or when the time limit ends.

You can delete your local data and request server deletion using the "Delete All My Data" option in the app.

How We Use Your Data

• Show you nearby venues and matches
• Enable check-ins and venue-based matching
• Verify you are 18+ (self-declaration)
• Provide subscriptions and premium features

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with third-party services only as needed to provide maps, venue search, and subscriptions, as described below. Your location and preferences are only visible to other users who are checked in at the same venue.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to deliver core functionality:

• OpenStreetMap / Overpass API: To find venue data near your location
• Map tile providers (e.g., CARTO / OpenStreetMap): To render map tiles on Android
• MapLibre: For Android map rendering
• RevenueCat: For subscriptions, purchases, and entitlement management

We send precise latitude/longitude to map and venue services to retrieve nearby venues and map tiles. We do not send names, emails, or profile identifiers.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Delete Your Data: Use the "Delete All My Data" option in the Help menu
• Stop Data Collection: Simply check out or close the app
• Browse Without Sharing: You can view the map without checking in

Location Permission

Location permission is optional. The app uses location data to:

• Show you nearby venues with precise distance
• Allow you to check in to venues
• Connect you with others at the same location

If you don't grant location permission, we use an estimated location so you can browse nearby venues. You can view the map, but you cannot check in without precise location.

Estimated Location

If GPS permission is not granted, we use an IP-based location service (through our server) to estimate your general area so you can still browse nearby venues.

Age Verification

We collect your date of birth to verify you are 18 or older. We do not collect photos or run facial scans in the app.

Data Security

We protect your data through:

• Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
• Minimal data collection
• Expiration of check-ins

Children's Privacy

Our app is only for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect when changes were made.
